Message from Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson

Charitable non-profit organizations are vital to the health, safety, and quality of life in Council District 8. The strength of our social fabric depends on the many non-profits that provide services to children, families, seniors, the unhoused, artists, and others. Throughout District 8, from small neighborhood civic groups to larger public health and mental health services providers, non-profit organizations have proven effective in reaching deep into our communities to provide support, relief, and activities that “make the 8th” a great place to live.

With resources awarded to this Council District in the LA City Budget, I am proud to announce the formation of our own Community Based Organization Grant Fund to enhance and complement funding available to our non-profits.

This website outlines the establishment of the Fund and guidelines for applying. It will inform our community about awards made to organizations and what is being accomplished with the funds.

It is with tremendous pride and excitement that I announce the availability of funds and encourage organizations located in our Council District to apply. We all know that the COVID19 global pandemic adversely affected our local economy, especially non-profit organizations, and disproportionately affected residents of CD8.

I am committed to a thriving non-profit sector and its capacity to serve our residents. As a community, we must be committed to making the best and highest use of these funds as we continue to grow and improve the remarkable work of our non-profit service providers and advocates.
